B&N's New Nook Wireless Ebook Reader Squares Up To Amazon.Com's EBook Reader Device
Through proprietary formats, when you purchase a novel for digital download from Kindle it will come in their own file format .AZW that only allows you to read it on amazon's wireless reading device. So if in the future, obviously after you have have checked out all the digital book readers for the latest model at the best price, you then decided you wanted to swap ebook readers to a different make, your collection of electronic books become worthless. Make your own mind up if it's evenhanded or not.
That scenario has been a big sticking point for the business in general but also for the makers of other digital book readers in particular. They where never going to be able to offer the plethora of novels Amazon where capable of doing and so this helped sales of the Kindle . And so they offer support for extra file formats, particularly the Adobe .PDF, which is a preferred format for free ebooks, but this format does not mimic a scaled down form of text that well as it was always supposed to be reproducing copy at an A4 size, perfect for the Kindle dx and iLiad ereaders but not so for the smaller 5,6 and 7 inch screens.

It is fast emerging as the format of the future and has recieved support from the likes of Google Library who will be releasing their total one million books, of which the bulk are free to download, in this format. Barnes and Noble will also be going the same way as will the Sony-Store.
So you may see that the electronic book reading device that has support for this format will be future resistant. B&N's Nook Wireless ebook reader has .Epub support, as does the Sony Daily Edition, and so you can download your digitally downloaded books from where you decide, paid for or free, and not solely from the manufacturer of the electronic books reader , which is the case with the Kindle ebook reader device.
